Why My Gun Vault is fundamentally different from cloud-based solutions
Unlike cloud-based apps, My Gun Vault never uploads your firearm data to any server, database, or cloud service. Everything stays on your computer, encrypted with a password only you know. We couldn't access your data even if we wanted to.
Your firearms, ammunition, serial numbers, values, and notes are saved in an encrypted file on your computer only. Not on our servers. Not in the cloud. Just your hard drive.
Your data is encrypted using the same AES-256 standard used by governments and militaries worldwide. Only your password can decrypt it. We don't have your password. We don't have your encryption key. We can't decrypt your data.
When you create your password, it generates a unique encryption key that never leaves your computer. This key is derived from your password using industry-standard cryptographic hashing. Without your password, the data is mathematically unreadable.
Once installed, the app works completely offline. No internet connection required to add, edit, or view your inventory. Your firearm data never touches the internet.
To provide the software as a service and prevent piracy, we track only the following:
Used for license validation and password recovery. We never sell or share your email.
Whether your subscription is active or expired (required to enforce the 2-machine limit).
A unique identifier for each computer you install on (to enforce the 2-machine limit). This is a random hash — not tied to any personal information.
We do NOT track: Serial numbers, firearm models, calibers, quantities, values, locations, or any inventory data whatsoever. That information never leaves your computer.

We believe your firearm inventory is your business — not ours, not the government's, not anyone else's. That's why we designed My Gun Vault to be fundamentally private by architecture, not just by policy. Even if we were served a warrant, there's nothing to hand over. Your data is yours alone.
